Devon driving instructor, Peter Austen of Austen's School of Motoring provides information on the theory and hazard perception test that you will have to pass prior to taking your practical driving test.
Please obtain a copy of the Highway Code at the earliest point possible so that you can familiarise yourself with the code and apply this knowledge to your practical lessons.

Theory Test
- Theory test is taken using a touch-screen multiple-choice test, assessing your knowledge and understanding of the Highway Code.
- In order to pass the theory test you must obtain a score of 43 or more out of 50 questions..
- The theory test lasts approximately one hour in total
Hazard Perception Test
- You will observe a number of video clips, presenting everyday hazards that occur when driving. You must identify any hazards, and developing hazards. You show that you have identified a hazard by clicking the mouse that is linked to the video monitor.
- In order to pass the hazard perception test you must obtain a score of 44 out of 75.
- You must obtain a pass mark in both the above tests before applying for your Practical Driving Test.
